AfterWards: Mapping Violence Against Women through Global Artists’ Narratives

This presentation explores the “Violence Against Women Art Map,” a publicly accessible online platform that provides insights into the cultural and political nuances of violence against women. The project captures diverse experiences of violence across race, class, ethnicity, faith, and language through creative narratives. Attendees will discuss issues such as patient vulnerability, culturally responsive care, and community-building for trauma survivors.

Award-winning educator and scholar Lauren Stetz, Ph.D. is an Adjunct Associate Professor and Curriculum Consultant at University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA. Stetz’s global research considers culturally responsive arts pedagogy and practice to promote healing, community building and societal transformation. Her work has been published in numerous journals, including Visual Culture & Gender and Ground Works, and she has co-authored a chapter in Health Humanities in Application (Riegel & Robinson, 2023). She currently serves as chair of the Data Visualization Working Group in the National Art Education Association.
