Toxic – A Black Woman’s Story | Movie Screening

Nationally, Black women are three times more likely than white women to die from pregnancy-related causes. Multiple factors contribute to these disparities, such as variation in quality health care, underlying chronic conditions, structural racism and implicit bias. Social determinants of health prevent many people from racial and ethnic minority groups from having fair opportunities for economic, physical and emotional health (Working Together to Reduce Black Maternal Mortality, Health Equity, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention).
This event is the second in the series of maternal health equity events at Johns Hopkins Medicine. Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center (JHBMC) will host an in-person and virtual maternal health equity event July 25, 12-1 p.m. The event will include a screening of Toxic — A Black Woman’s Story, and a panel discussion with patients and experts on maternal health disparities. In-person attendance will be for no more than 50 people, so registration will fill up quickly.
