AfterWards – The Grace Project, Portraits in Courage, Beauty and Grace
June 28, 2023 @ 12:00 am – 12:30 am
Please join us for a very special AfterWards on Wednesday June 28th at noon on Zoom as we hear from award-winning photographer Charise Isis on “The Grace Project.”
“The Grace Project” is a series of empowering portraits that capture the courage, beauty, and grace of those who have had surgery as a result of breast cancer. A long-term project, Charise Isis’s initial goal is to photograph and exhibit 800 portraits, the approximate number of new breast cancer diagnoses in the U.S. every day.
To obtain a Zoom link, please RSVP to Lauren Small, [email protected].
For over twenty years, award-winning photographer Charise Isis has used her camera to explore themes of self-esteem and body image in an attempt to help shift the narrow and impossible beauty standards that exist within our culture. Her photography focus is on empowering women and helping them to let go of shame. She began “The Grace Project” twelve years ago. Her work has been widely exhibited both nationally and internationally, including at esteemed galleries and museums such as the Michael Mazzo Gallery in New York and the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, and has been featured in publications including MS Magazine and the Huffington Post. The Grace Project has been featured on The Morning Show and CBS Saturday Morning. Recent awards include the Photo Lucida 2022 “top 50” photographers for Critical Mass.
