May 25, 2023 @ 4:00 pm 5:00 pm EDT

The Clinical, Social and Scientific Foundations of Geriatric Medicine Grand Rounds are canceled until further notice.

Clinical, Social, and Scientific Foundations of Geriatric Medicine is a weekly conference.  Topics and discussants change weekly.   The general schedule is as follows:

4:00 PM         Invocation: 5– minutes. Well-received invocations have included discussions of current contentious medico-ethical or legal issues, changes in the health care financing system, or the state of academic medicine.

4:05                Clinical Case: 20-minutes.  A faculty member or fellow is assigned to present a clinical case.  The typical format begins with the presentation of a case with an overview of the history of present illness, pertinent past medical history, family history, social history, review of systems, and physical examination.  The format for this session can include active audience participation or the review by the discussant of appropriate literature pertinent to the case for the remainder of the session.

4:25                Announcements/Introductions: 5-minutes. Individuals who have come to the conference for the first time are introduced.  General announcements of lectures throughout the University are given.  Divisional announcements are made.

4:30-5:00       Academic Projects in Progress: 30-minutes. The scope of this component of Grand Rounds is the most diverse, and includes presentations about basic science, clinical, epidemiologic research, etc.  The concept of “academic projects in progress” is open to interpretation.

The goal is to invite a variety of colleagues with research and/or clinical interests related directly or indirectly to Geriatric Medicine and aging.
